I have deleted a large number of records from a database which accounted for much of the space being used as it was not needed at this time. When I take a backup of the database will the size of the db I then restore from this backup be reduced or should I shrink the database first. Didn't want to have to perform a shrink operation if not necessary as I've seen posts that it affects performance.
