Uninstalling SQL Server 2005 after Inplace upgraded of SQL Server 2005 SP3 to SQL Server 2008 R2.

Hi All,

We have done inplace upgraded of SQL Server 2005 SP3 (2 instances on same machine) to SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1).

After upgrade,  as per Add and remove program SQL Server 2005 is taking around 3 GB and SQL Server 2008 R2 is taking < 1 GB.

Can anyone tell me Is it ok to uninstall SQL Server 2005? OR SQL Server 2008 is still using binaries from SQL Server 2005 folder.

Below is the folder size at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server

------------------------------------------
Folder Name        |        Size
------------------------------------------
80                      |         20 MB
90                      |       879 MB
100                    |       1.06 GB
------------------------------------------

Thanks you in Advance for your suggestions.

Regards,
Abhishek

I cannot install SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 64 bit.  I get a failure during the checks for "Performance counter registry hive consistency".  I have tried various solutions on these forums to no avail.  The help points tohttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956, but that does not apply to Windows 7.

Can anyone help?

SQL Server Management Studio has stopped working when changing fonts and colors

I installed sql server management studio 2012 about 3 months ago to test drive and from time to time I'll attempt to change my background color of the TSql editor "In the fonts and colors option under tools"; however, the entire studio crashes and restarts.

This has been ongoing since I first installed it 3 or 4 months ago, and have waited on posting to a fourm for help, assuming I am not the only one this is happening to I've waited for an update that might fix the issue.

I've got to start on some heavy scripting and that god awful white background kills my eyes. I've got to have a black background or my work day is cut off by about 3 hours becuase of strain.

What can I provide to someone that would help me with this?

Thank you,

Erik

Problem Connecting to SQl after SP3 UG

Hi Guys,

here is the error log

2013-04-16 11:52:00.76 spid7s      Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'sqlagent100_msdb_upgrade.sql' encountered error 200, state 7, severity 25. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and the database will be taken offline. If the error happened during upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start the database so that the script upgrade steps run to completion.

SQL Cluster: use NFS or iSCSI for datadrives

Hello All,

I'm looking to setup a cluster and would like to use NFS or iSCSI.

I have a 1GBit network interface for the connectivity to my NFS or iSCSI target.

Is this a realistic design?

Can NFS or iSCSI be used for the datadrives? I've already seen some documents where MSFT state that they recommend local storage or FC SAN.
The network I'll be building on is very relialable, but still I'm worried about the consistency of my databases.

TCPIP however is designed to resend any eventual dropped packets, but I'm wondering if SQL can deal with this.

Does anyone have any experience in this?

What about the connection speed? is 1GBit sufficient?

I will run some System Center products on it, as well as a VCenter database.

Any guidance is much appreciated!

Filip

MSDTC needed or not?

Hi All,

I'm designing a SQL 2008 R2 Cluster on windows 2012 servercluster (2nodes) and am wondering if I need to foresee MSDTC as a cluster resource.

I'm only going to deploy the database engine and reporting services.

Do I need DTC then as well or not?

I've found the following article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189910(v=sql.105).aspx

It states the following: "Before installing SQL Server on a failover cluster, determine whether the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) cluster resource must be created. If you are installing only the Database Engine, the MSDTC cluster resource is not required."

The cluster will be used to host System Center products.

What are your thoughts on this?

Many thanks!

Filip

Datatype Issue after Upgrade from 2000 to 2005

Hi,

There was an upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005, now one of the executable is failing. It imports into a tables that had a numeric datatype before but now it seems to rejectnumbers with exponential sign but once it is changed into varchar, it works. Are there any other options aside from changing the datatype in SQL Server 2005 aside from changing the datatype for the base table. Any suggestions or comments would be helpful.

Thanks.

Unable to get past pre-req checker when deploying SQL 2008 R2 Cluster on Windows 2012 Cluster (2node)

Hello All,

I'm trying to deploy a SQL 2008 R2 cluster on a windows 2012 server cluster (2nodes: SQL02 & SQL03).

I've created a slipstreamed installation package of SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise + SP1 by following this post:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/petersad/archive/2011/07/13/how-to-slipstream-sql-server-2008-r2-and-a-sql-server-2008-r2-service-pack-1-sp1.aspx

When I run the installer and select "New SQL Server Failover Cluster", then I'm stuck at the pre-requisite checker:
http://sdrv.ms/1106MV2

When I check the detailed report, it looks like this:
http://sdrv.ms/119gRk3

When I look at the cluster, then all seems fine:
http://sdrv.ms/ZnLRwZ
The server I'm trying to install the cluster on (SQL03) is the current Host Server and is online.

The SQL03 server also has all disks assigned:
http://sdrv.ms/ZnLYbT

The checker also complained that the cluster validation hasn't been run yet or that there are errors within the cluster.
This isn't the case neither:
http://sdrv.ms/17iFVpk

The only warning I have is related to the network and is because I only have 1 pair of network interfaces which might be a SPOF.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?
I've checked everything and according to me all should be good to go with the SQL cluster.

All help is much appreciated!!

Many thanks!

Filip

SQL Server Agent not starting after upgrade.

I just recently upgraded from SQL Server 2005 standard to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. After I install was done it said something about "MSSQLDBDefaultUser" which was created some time ago didn't exit. Looking at Active Directory this user does exist and is active. <o:p></o:p>

So I let the install finish and noticed that some of the services were not started so I went in and restarted them. All of them restarted except for the SQL Server Agent service. It came back saying it couldn't start. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.<o:p></o:p>

migrating from trial edition to paid version of SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition

I migrated a couple of legacy SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL Server 2012 to see what was involved.  Now the trial period has expired.  SSMS no longer works -- error message that the trial has expired.   I've gotten the green light to acquire licenses.  Does the client software have to be reinstalled from a new DVD? Or will there be an option to enter a license key?  How about the engine on the server? Will we have to uninstall and reinstall the server-side components?

Hello.

I have been trying to install SQL Express 2008, 3 different editions on a Windows 2008 Standard Server.  All of the installers failed just after the install file had finished unpacking itself in a temp folder. No errors or logs were found.

.Net3.5sp1, Windows Installer 4.5 and PowerShell 1.0 were all installed.

I was only able to find a log file when I used the SqlExpressWrapper.exe to drive the installation.

The error displayed from the wapper is : An error occurred during installation of SQL Server 2008 Express. Installation failed with exit code -2147467259

thank you for your help.

Internal Query Processor Error - During Installation

I am having problem installing SQL Server 2008 R2 express (SP2) , on a Win7 Home Premium pc.

Error occured near the end of the installation process.

The Error message : Internal Query Processor Error : xxx

I checked the event log and found that it actually referencing to e: , but e: is a cdrom.

I am installing from D: , so it doesn't make sense that it refers to e:

I have tried disabling the cdrom drive, so that the e: disappear from "My Computer", but the error still persisted.

Is there any solution for this?

PC Specification:

Win7 Home Premium

32 bit , 4gb ram
