Check Database Integrity in Maintenance Plan not working in SQL Server 2005 SP2

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, then SP1 and then SP2, Maintenance Plan worked. But if I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise and then SP2 directly (skipping SP1), the Check Database Integrity in Maintenance Plan was not working. The error message is as follows:

Executed as user: Domain\SqlServiceAccount. Microsoft (R) SQL Server Execute Package Utility  Version 9.00.3042.00 for 64-bit  Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2005. Other tasks like Rebuild Index seem to be fine. SP2 is supposed to be inclusive. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening.

Thanks

SQL Server 2012 upgrades Documentation Components only

Hi there,

I am trying to upgrade to SQL server 2012 EE from SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 64bit (10.50.4000 ) (from the ISO that includes both 32 and 64 versions of SQL server 2012).

All components of SQL server 2008 are installed and active (DB Engine, SQL Agent, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, FTS Daemon and SSMS).

The Setup/Upgrade process passes all checks and rules but when it gets to the "Selected Features" page it shows only "Documentation Components" (all is disabled). All the main features of SQL Server are NOT there: DB engine, SSAS, SSRS etc. and none of the shared components and client tools - ONLY documentation. See  image below:

The upgrade process continues well, but finishes very quickly, leaving only Documentation folder under the SQL server 2012 program group. The existing Instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 remained intact and was not upgraded.

The machine is virtual. Win server 2008R2 Enterprise 64bit. The setup program runs from a local folder.

I couldn’t find any explanation for this behaviour.

Please help!

Thanks

licencing issue

hello,

I hope this is the right place to ask my question, if not please redirect me to another place where I can ask me, but please don't redirect me to a site where the information is supposed to be, I already searched the web quite a lot (including, but not limited to, http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/mla/default.aspx) without finding the answer I'm looking for.

I am a developer and I would like my end user to be able to use SQL server (2000). I know it's not supported anymore. I don't do any processing, and I don't hold the database, I just provide the driver for the database. I don't have any licences, but my client does (and the application I'm developing will be run by my client).
Am I allowed to bundle this driver into my application, or should I just provide a conf file that my client can change and where it says the path where the driver is ?

Thanks

We are attempting to install TFS 2012 and an error message TF400933 on TFS verification reads that we need to update our SQLServer database to at least CU1.  A link is provided.  We downloaded the hotfix and ran the installer and it installs Master Data Services.  Is there a second step to the update, or is this the incorrect download?  The list updates function of control panel does not list CU1 as being installed.

Best Practice recommendation for System DBs, UserDBs/ and Log files on a 3 volume system

$

Hi Experts!,

We don't have enough volumes to fully implement the hard drive configuration best practices I have researched, but we did add one more volume.

Given that we now have 3 volumes including the root C, what would be the configuration for this?

Here is my initial thought:

  • C:\ -  Windows OS\ SQL Install
  • D:\ -  User Database (.mdb files) and System DBs data files (Master/Model/TempDB .mdb files)
  • E:\ -  User DB Log Files (.ldb files) and System DBs log files (Master/Model/TempDB .ldb files)

Is there a better configuration?

Should the SystemDBs (both the system mdb and ldb) be with on log file volumes instead?

Please advise!

Thanks,

What is the syntax to provide the Server name and the SQL instance name when installing SQL Server 2008 R2?

$

Hello Community

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 but I want provide a named instance.  The named
instance should be "DeptServer".

The problem is that where the instance name goes there isn't enough space to
include the server name.  For example my SQL Server name should be "SQLServer1" but
my instance name as I stated is "DeptServer".

So when I am trying to install SQL Server I try to type: "SQLServer1\DeptServer"
so that I know my server instance from other server instances after other instances are installed but the textbox that
I enter the name into doesn't except that many characters.

What I am asking is how can I enter the <Server name> and the instance name when
I install SQL Server using SQL Server 2008 R2?

    Thank you

SQLServer Express Installation fails on Vista with "broken fusion ATL" error.

I try installing SQLServer Express 2008 on Vista Enterprise machine. The installation is failing with the error "A computer restart is required because of broken fusion ATL. You must restart your computer before you continue." I applied all steps and tricks I could find on MSDN or other sources. In particular I made sure there are no  PendingFileRenameOperations registry keys with file names. I have all prerequisits installed (MSI 4.5, .NET 3.5SP1, PowerShell). Initially I tried to install through command line. After I got this error, I switchedto GUI. The results are identical. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

The message from SystemConfigurationCheck_Report.html:

Fusion ATL rule check fails installing SQL server 2008 on Windows 7

$

Hi there

I'm trying to install SQL server 2008 on Windows 7 (unfortunately all italian, trouble translating errors).
The "rule for ATL check" always fails saying "reboot required".
I followed KB 955792 without solving the problem. I'm doing installation with administrator account, it seems that SqlSupport.msi does not install.
On the Event Viewer, "administrative events" ("eventi amministrativi") I found evet ID 33, originated by SideBySide. I paste it here in Italian because "Generazione del contesto di attivazione" in italian menas nothing. Why error aren't always in English?
I try to use sxstrace, but I don't understand the output.

Generazione del contesto di attivazione non riuscita per
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Release\x86\FusionCheck.dll".
Impossibile trovare l'assembly dipendente Microsoft.VC80.ATL,processorArchitecture="x86",
publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.1833".
Utilizzare sxstrace.exe per ottenere una diagnosi dettagliata.

Can somebody help me?

tks and regards

SQL Server Service Fails to Start: Error 1067. The process terminated unexpectedly

Hello there!

I installed the released SQL Server 2008 R2 on x64 (amd64) computer running Windows Server 2008 R2. This was a full install with all the setup features selected in the Setup Wizard. Setup process has finished successfully. However, after a reboot I discovered that the SQL Server (INSTANCENAME) is not running. I tried to forcibly start the service from the service properties dialog using the Services snap-in. Starting the service returned the following error:

---------------------------
Services
---------------------------
Windows could not start the SQL Server (KL) service on Local Computer.

Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The service is running under the Network Service account selected during the setup process.

In the Application log is see the following error:

Faulting application name: sqlservr.exe, version: 2009.100.1600.1, time stamp: 0x4bb6b40b
Faulting module name: sqlservr.exe, version: 2009.100.1600.1, time stamp: 0x4bb6b40b

Report Id: e4335a09-7ab6-11df-91cf-0023544cc96e

From the Sql Server Configuration Manager I see that the SQL Server (KL) instance has the automatic startup mode and the state is Stopped.

I have disabled all the client protocols but TCP/IP. My firewall is turned off.

Starting the SQL Server (KL) service from the SQL Server Configuration Manager returns this error:

---------------------------
SQL Server Configuration Manager
---------------------------
The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I figured out that I DON NOT HAVE THE DATA folder under the MSSQL10_50.KL folder.

That's all I have:

18.06.2010  12:04    <DIR>          .
18.06.2010  12:04    <DIR>          ..
18.06.2010  12:04    <DIR>          Binn

18.06.2010  10:45    <DIR>          Upgrade

Seems like this wasn't a success setup despite what setup wizard reported. Or I am missing something?

Any clues?

Thank you in advance.

Stanislav.

SQL Server 2008 R2, which build includes security update MS12-027?

$

My servers are currently at SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU3 (10.50.2789).  I would like to update my servers to at least SP2.  More importantly, I'd like to ensure whatever build I update to includes the cricitical security update MS12-027.  Does 2008 R2 SP2 include the security update MS12-027?  I suspect it doesn't since the documentation says it includes SP1 CU1-CU5, and CU5 was released Feb. 20, 2012,  while MS12-027 was released April 10, 2012.  If it doesn't, does SP2 CU1 include security-update MS12-027?  If not, does SP2 CU2?  or SP2 CU3?  How do I find this out??  I don't see anything in the KB articles for the SP2 Cumulative Updates about including the MS12-027 security update?

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks!

SQL Server 2012 Error

SQL Server Management Studio fails to load with the error message "Microsoft Visual Studio Isolated Shell Environment." "Cannot find one or more components.  Please reinstall the application."

This started happening after I tried to install the "Beta" of Visual Studio 11.  That installation failed during install.  I have removed all of the artifacts that I can find from that installation and I have completely removed SQL Server 2012 and reinstalled multiple times in different ways.  All other features seem to work.

Any idea's on which file I messed up by trying to install the beta?
